Dana 10.12.2024. u 13:15 sati Dr. John Clinton (The Swiss Seismological Service at ETH Zurich) će održati predavanje “Earthquake Early Warning Systems in Europe”.

SAŽETAK: Earthquake Early Warning Systems (EEWS) identify and characterize earthquakes as they are occurring and can provide seconds of warning in advance of damaging shaking to areas some 10’s of km from the epicentre. Most EEWS systems rely on dense, modern seismic networks and leverage modern communications systems to deliver rapid, low latency alerts to the public and industry. EEWS are implemented in many part of East Asia and the Americas, but have not yet been introduced in Europe, despite European scientists leading scientific developments and the widespread deployment of EEW‐ready seismic networks in our region. In this presentation, I highlight how EEW can be relevant in Europe, present the algorithmic developments being made at ETH, and demonstrate how our software is being tested and indeed implemented across the globe. I discuss how EEW could be implemented in European countries in the near future.

Pozivaju se studenti, apsolventi i svi zainteresirani da prisustvuju predavanju, koje će se održati u predavaoni P2 na Geofizičkom odsjeku PMF‐a, Horvatovac 95, Zagreb.
